The 18-month rule settles most of it: storage needs that outlive a year and a half favor buying, because the box resells near what you paid; shorter needs favor renting, because delivery-plus-pickup beats purchase-plus-resale hassle. Rent-to-own exists for the common middle case — permanent need, monthly budget. And if the container has a job beyond sealed storage (a shop, a concession build, a vented chemical locker for a Lenexa warehouse), start at modifications so the build happens at the shop instead of in your driveway.
